Cut Him Up! Game for iOS – Pulp Noir Brawler with Stylized Graphics

Jersey City, New Jersey – Iskandar, Inc. today is pleased to introduce Cut Him Up! for iOS, their pulp noir brawler game with stylized, comic book, B&W animated graphics, and deep red blood spatter effects. It features the Cocos2D middleware physics engine for realistic explosions and shatter effects, both story and survival gameplay modes, a large assortment of combo moves, chainsaw attacks, and epic boss fights. The artist and developer, longtime fighting game fans, cite Street Fighter, Double Dragon, Final Fight, Ninja Gaiden, Madworld, and Sin City as seminal influences.

Cut Him Up!, an ultra-violent brawler, is set in a nightmarish, unidentified hospital/asylum. The action takes place in the halls of Ward B, where the protagonist fights masked surgeons, guards, orderlies, and former patients who are the result of failed experiments. The noir storyline unfolds between bouts of punches, kicks, gore, and all out mayhem. Players may opt out of the story and cutscenes by choosing survival mode, which provides continuous action sans speech balloons and pop up panels.

Feature Highlights:
* Artwork by TenthHelix
* Master a variety of combos to help when facing tremendous odds
* Additional endless survival mode provides infinite hours of gameplay
* Enemies will explode and shatter thanks to the state of the art physics engine
* Online leaderboards through OpenFeint (achievements coming soon)
* Intense hip/hop inspired beats electrifying the experience
* Intriguing storyline revealed in between the action
* Chainsaw weapon to mow down enemies

The game is played in landscape mode, offers two levels of difficulty, and permits toggling on/off of sound F/X, music, text F/X, and blood F/X. Character movement is controlled by a touch sensitive joystick control in the lower left, and fighting moves by two touch sensitive buttons in the lower right. Moves include: jump, block, jump kick, earthquake, the standard, blunt knee, carcass blast, and rolling thunder. Pills, syringes, knives, and chainsaws all serve as potential weapons. The copious blood spatters show up ruby red against the high contrast, all black & white graphics and animation.

“It’s been a great experience developing Cut Him Up! with my old high school friend, artist Larry Beckx of TenthHelix,” commented company President Edwin Iskandar. “This game has both the look and the action we’ve talked about creating for years.”

Device Requirements:`
* iPhone 3G, iPhone 3Gs, iPhone 4, iPad, iPod touch 2G and up
* iOS 3.0 or later (iOS 4 tested)
* 18 MB

Pricing and Availability:

Logan and the Upside Down Sea – Kids eBook Optimized for All iOS Devices

Jersey City, New Jersey – Iskandar, Inc. today is pleased to introduce Logan and the Upside Down Sea 1.0, their interactive eBook for kids optimized for all iOS devices. The eBook features: pen and ink, hand drawn graphics; read aloud option; follow along text; touch sensitive characters; interactive story line; and an imaginative, fun-filled narrative. Incorporating page turn animation, the optimized graphics appear at the highest resolution possible, whether viewed on an iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, or Retina display.

The story takes place on the planet Pedra, where Logan and his sister Penelope are playing hide and go seek. During their adventures we meet Alvin the Teddy Bear, Aku the Dragon, a hot air balloon, an upside down sea, Horatio the Whale, Baju the Turtle, and Phoebe the Fish. When touched, each character and animal performs an animated somersault, the narrator reads their name aloud, and the reader hears their identifying sound effect. Recommended for children ages 3 to 8, kids will enjoy hearing the names of each character and animal whenever they are touched.

Especially effective are the hand drawn graphics, full color pen, ink, brush, and wash drawings. The difficult but expressive technique involves creation of a pen and Indian ink drawing, followed by a series of ink washes. The transparent mixture of ink and water is applied freely with a brush, starting with lightest tones and proceeding through to the darkest. This creates smooth, organic transitions between shades and a layering of tones. All elements are outlined and then filled in with color, detail, and shading. The overall effect is the reverse of the enabling technology: the illustrations are warm, natural, and non-digital.

Feature Highlights:
* Completely original story created for this iOS edition
* Interactive elements on every page
* Read aloud option
* Realistic physics effects
* Integrated tasks and puzzles exploit touch screen, tilt sensor, etc.
* Graphics optimized for all iOS devices
* Especially for children ages 3 to 8
* From the creators of Alphabet Creatures, and the Infant Arcade series

Each page of the eBook consists of a 3-layered drawing, and each layer may be animated independently. The foreground contains opaque, full tones; the midground lighter, more washed out colors; and the background the least saturated, unfocused shades. The resulting quasi-3D effect adds to the natural, soft feeling, the opposite of typical computer graphics. Combined with the playful narration and realistic sound effects, the drawings bring the story to life.

“Our goal in creating Logan and the Upside Down Sea was to produce a children’s eBook that would be entertaining for both kids and their parents,” stated CEO Edwin Iskandar. “It was a challenge, but I believe we’ve succeeded.”

Device Requirements:
* iPhone, iPad or iPod touch
* iOS 3.2 or later
* 53.4 MB

Pricing and Availability:
Logan and the Upside Down Sea 1.0 is regularly priced at $3.99 (USD), but is on sale now for $1.99, and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Books category. Review copies are available upon request.

iPhone Developer Hawk Ridge Consulting Delivers Kids App for K12, Inc.

Reston, Virginia – Hawk Ridge Consulting has completed another family-friendly iPhone app with the launch of K12 Timed Reading Practice, a kids iPhone app that helps students build reading fluency. Hawk Ridge Consulting is an iPhone app developer offering custom services to companies that want to extend their brand to the growing iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch markets, but don’t want to devote full-time resources to mobile development.

Established brands such as K12 Inc. benefit from partnering with an experienced mobile developer as they build their in-house expertise. “K12 offers a range of Web-based learning tools for kids that tie into their award-winning curriculum, and they hired us to develop one of those tools as a native iPhone app,” said Hawk Ridge Consulting CEO, Julie McCool. “By partnering with Hawk Ridge Consulting, K12 got a quality iPhone app to market quickly and cost-effectively.”

“We tapped Hawk Ridge Consulting to develop the K12 Timed Reading Practice app because of their established product and technical expertise in the iPhone market,” said Corey Maender, Senior Director, Product Development at K12 Inc. “We had innovative courseware that we knew would appeal to kindergarten through 4th grade educators and students using mobile devices, and wanted a partner with experience launching multiple, quality iPhone apps. Hawk Ridge Consulting worked closely with our design team to translate our existing eLearning Timed Reading assets into a compelling user experience for the iPhone,” said Maria Szalay, Senior Vice President, Product Development.

Previous Hawk Ridge Consulting client apps include the popular FanGraphs Baseball sports app. Hawk Ridge also creates and markets the Snow Globe Maker app series, including Snow Globe Maker Beach, Winter, and Spring, all available from the iTunes App Store for $.99 each. Inspired by Ms. McCool’s time as an executive at AOL where she saw how people love to mix and match art to express their personality and passions, Snow Globe Maker brings creativity, expression and family interaction together on the iPhone. All three Snow Globe Maker apps were recently updated for Apple’s new iOS 4.0 operating system.

Apple – Sentiment Weakens Ahead of Earnings

Los Altos, California – Crowd Technologies, Inc. provider of the stock research site Piqqem, today announced the sentiment results for Apple Computer going into their earnings announcement on Tuesday July 20, 2010. In a stunning turn of events, sentiment for Apple has dropped 15 points to the lowest level in the past 15 months.

Piqqem’s quarterly chart shows Apple’s sentiment dropping by 15 points from the beginning of the quarter thru today. In comparison, sentiment for the Piqqem Technology Index rose 2 points in the same period, which means Apple’s decreasing sentiment was not strongly influenced by market forces. On the Piqqem scale, Apple’s sentiment rating of 34.60 is still considered positive and indicates a quality stock.

This drop in Apple’s sentiment is certainly a cause for concern. Apple has consistently been a top 3 rated company on Piqqem’s top rated list and now doesn’t appear in the top twenty-five. At its peak, Apple had a sentiment rating of 58 at the beginning of the year. Is there any rational for the drop?

In analyzing the sentiment line, Piqqem identified 2 primary issues. On April 29 Steve Jobs wrote his open letter regarding the state of Flash from Apple’s perspective and this corresponded to a 7 point drop in Apple’s sentiment. On June 24, Apple released the iPhone 4 which received some bad reviews and this corresponded to another 5 point drop in sentiment. As of now, both of these events remain more of a PR issue and Apple’s briefing last week about the iPhone 4 should put the company back on track.

Analysts Still Love Apple

Average analyst estimates for the iMac and iPhone giant are $3.10/share in EPS and $14.74 billion in Revenue. 40 analysts track the stock with 15 upward EPS revisions in the last 30 days and no downward EPS revisions in the last 30 days. The 15 upward revisions is a real vote of confidence for the expected performance in the third quarter. Last quarter, Apple beat average analyst expectations by $.88 per share, $3.33/share vs. $2.45 per share. Apple’s share price also remains strong with Friday’s close of $249.90 being at 78% of its 52 week price range.

Apple’s Sector, Hardware & Networking, Remains Strong

Apple is also part of the Piqqem Technology Sentiment Index which tracks sentiment for 28 technology stocks in the Hardware & Networking, Software & Gaming, Internet & Mobile, and Semiconductor Sectors. Apple is part of the hardware and networking sector and it has shown growing strength and remains the strongest of the four technology sectors. So this is positive for Apple.

Sentiment has proven to be a good indicator of upcoming earnings. Sentiment has remained positive to very positive in the previous 5 quarters for Apple. This positive sentiment has correctly forecasted the general earnings result. Last quarter sentiment for Apple predicted a great quarter and the company delivered a great quarter.

Q3 Earnings – What Does it All Mean

The financial analysts remain bullish on Apple and the stock price closed Friday in the upper 25% of its 52 price range. Apple’s recent product releases of the iPhone 4 and the iPad have had phenomenal success. But even with this momentum, something has changed. In the end, only Apple knows their actual results and current sentiment points to the iMac & iPhone giant delivering good results on Tuesday, but there may be clouds forming for the future – a future where Apple is no longer the darling underdog, but the 700 pound gorilla that everyone else is gunning for.

About Piqqem Sentiment

Piqqem uses a -100 to 100 scale and leverages the wisdom of crowds and its own proprietary algorithms to capture and calculate sentiment. Any sentiment rating above 25 is considered positive, below 0 is considered negative, while 0-25 is considered neutral. Changes in sentiment are also crucial in understanding and interpreting a company’s sentiment ahead of an event like earnings. Finally, market forces need to be considered to make sure overall market sentiment changes are not overly influencing a stock’s individual sentiment.

Particularly well suited to young children ages 3 and up, the app works on several levels. It is an opportunity for the youngest family member to earn initiation into perhaps the highest rite of modern technological culture – the iPhone. By quickly gaining mastery over this “magical” tool, the user develops their creativity and communication skills while delighting family and friends. In addition, the young child discovers the pleasures of the virtual world, where finger paints, beads, kites, dolls, balls, and jump ropes are all a touchscreen away. Through play, the child learns – automatically, delightfully, profoundly. And lastly, the bead maker finds an expressive outlet for their emotions of love and caring, the ancient secret behind the tradition of friendship bracelets.

Let’s Bead Friends launches in landscape mode, and the splash screen offers the choice to continue working on a saved bracelet or starting a new one. Starting afresh, the construction window opens with an empty white string on a jeweler’s, blue velvet display cloth. Beneath are five small wooden boxes holding plain white beads of various shapes: flower, cylinder, oval, circle, and diamond. Touching any sample enlarges it five-fold, and places it beside the string. Touching the “+” sign, reduces the bead to normal size and threads it on to the first position of the string.

Alternatively, the artisan may apply color and/or design to the large sample bead shape chosen. Choices include: red, pink, orange, yellow, green, aqua, blue, purple, white, and black. Touching any color transforms the sample bead. Again, the colored bead can be added to the string, or the user can add a design over the chosen color. There are 10 colored designs ranging from wavy lines, to spirals, to polka dots. After selecting a design the jeweler may add the bead to the bracelet, modify it, or start over. Different sound effects accompany every action, providing re-assuring feedback.

Feature Highlights:
* Create a friendship bracelet using the iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad
* Especially created for young children 3 to 10, but fun for all ages
* Choose from beads of five different shapes, 10 colors, and 10 designs
* Complete your friendship bracelet with a personally engraved silver charm
* Young children are fascinated by the shapes, colors and touchscreen technology
* Finished bracelets can be saved and edited, or shared on Facebook or by email
* Give someone a gift symbolizing your friendship

As soon as the tenth and final bead is added, the user has the option of adding a personalized message on the silver tag/charm. There are four shapes of charms from which to choose, and selecting one activates the pop-up keyboard to inscribe initials, a name, or a short message. With the charm added the child may choose the “Finished” button, which displays the final bracelet full-screen, to the accompaniment of “bling” sound effects and animated points of light sparkling on each bead. Complete, the user may use the integrated email and Facebook connectivity to share their creation, save it to their in-app jewelry box, or go back and edit any feature.

“We’re primarily educators, not entrepreneurs,” stated Vice President Anne Rachel. “Our mission statement is ‘To Educate and Entertain Simultaneously,’ and with Let’s Bead Friends I think we’ve succeeded.”
