Free iPhone Navigation Gets Fancier as Skobbler Releases Version 3.0
by editor on 19. Aug, 2010 in news
Berlin, Germany – After a solid seven figure investment by angel investors and fending off a lawsuit by former parent company Navigon, Skobbler releases an update to its popular and free turn-by-turn navigation system for the iPhone that incorporates a completely new user interface, full iOS4 compatibility, and significant stability improvements.
Coming into an established industry like the world of GPS Navigation companies and trying to make your mark is a difficult challenge, one that upstart Berlin development company Skobbler took on with a vengeance. With little initial funding and nothing but a good idea, Skobbler went out and rocked the navigation establishment by giving away the golden goose, a free turn by turn navigation application for the iPhone that rivals the core features of the $20+ apps already on the market.
After more than 350,000 downloads worldwide, a resounding win in a lawsuit against former parent company Navigon and a fresh round of venture investment, Skobbler has put its positive momentum to good use by further developing and significantly improving its free iPhone navigation app. As well as offering full compatibility with Apple’s iOS4 firmware, Skobbler 3.0 now delivers new levels of performance in a number of key areas.
Added to its features is an update to the user interface for the US market which includes a more intuitive format for the input of destinations. The Skobbler Navigation app has been upgraded to utilize the full set of iOS4 features including the ability to multi-task, allowing drivers to run other useful apps while driving running Skobbler in the background. For safety reasons, Skobbler recommends that multi-tasking is only used while the vehicle is stopped, or by passengers.
In addition to the Apple versions, Skobbler is set to release in the Android Marketplace within the month and is continueing to develop additional features into the Skobbler navigation app. Besides, skobbler will release several completely new geo-related apps during the upcoming weeks.

Typinator 4.1 simplifies creation of text expansions with presets
by editor on 18. Aug, 2010 in news
Hagenberg, Austria – Ergonis Software today announced the release and immediate availability of Typinator 4.1, a new version of their popular text expander. The new version allows to define set-specific presets for abbreviation options and speeds up the newly introduced QuickSearch function as well as the import of text files.
Typinator 4.1 also improves the installation and upgrade experience by allowing to skip one particular version in the automatic update check and by displaying a more prominent warning when a new version is not covered by the current license. Furthermore, the new release solves a problem with composing Gmail messages in Firefox and improves compatibility with certain 3rd party apps like Mail, aMSN, Kindle for Mac, and others.
“The new presets simplify the interactive creation of new abbreviations and save you quite a few clicks when the abbreviations within a set share the same options. Just define the most likely options as the default options, and Typinator automatically applies them to newly created abbreviations whenever possible,” said Gunther Blaschek, CTO of Ergonis Software.
Typinator is a powerful, yet elegantly simple solution that works across all applications. It detects specific sequences of typed characters and automatically replaces them with text snippets, graphics, URLs, dates and special characters.
For business users, Typinator leads to a layer of operational consistency and productivity across heterogeneous applications. A standard customer service response, a signature image on an email, a clause in a contract – each of these can be inserted in any application with just a couple of keystrokes. For technical users, Typinator automates typing of code and the implementation of documentation standards.
System Requirements:
Typinator 4.1 requires Mac OS X 10.4 or newer. Mac OS X 10.6 or newer is recommended.
Availability and Ordering:
Typinator can be purchased securely on the Ergonis Software website. The upgrade to Typinator 4.1 is free for all customers who purchased Typinator in the last 2 years. SuperMegaUltraGroovy Announces Capo 2
by editor on 03. Aug, 2010 in news
Waterloo, Ontario – SuperMegaUltraGroovy today is pleased to announce the release and immediate availability of Capo 2.0 for Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard. Capo helps musicians learn to play the music in their iTunes collection using their ears, and now also their eyes.
“This release marks a huge leap forward in self-directed musical study,” says Chris Liscio, the company’s founder. “Not only can you see the notes you’re hearing, but also how they are being played. This is some really powerful stuff.”
Capo 2.0 is a paid update that includes the ability to detect chords, and quickly create tablature from the songs that users are learning. The core of the update centers around a highly detailed spectrogram visualization that relies on OpenCL to compute.
“Months of research and development went into the Capo 2.0 release,” says Liscio. “[This was] not only due to the complexity of the algorithms involved, but also the powerful new interface that allows users to quickly tab out the music they wish to play.”
On the first launch, users will be greeted by a list of introductory videos that walk them through Capo’s new interface. “[The videos] are far better than reading even the most well-written documentation. I believe that it’s more powerful to show, than to tell,” says Liscio.
Capo 2.0 is a $19 (USD) upgrade for existing users that purchased before May 2010, and $49 for new users. A 5-pack of licenses is available for families at a price of $89. Information about Capo, and a free trial download, can be found on the product website. Capo is compatible with all Macs running Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard.
